Vintage Tupperware Party

A few weeks into the New Year, I went into major "funk" mode. This has happened to me a few times in the past. When the Winter funk comes on it happens fast and hits hard.

The excitement of the Fall and holidays were gone and to be honest, I didn't know what to do with myself. I tried to keep busy with hobbies and this and that but I had a semi-sad feeling going on and a bit of boredom.

You know how it is. It can bring on the lazies too. The couch turned into my best friend. No motivation to do anything. I hate when this happens.

Two weeks into the most boring month of the year, the hubster and I were out & about on a wintry, cold Saturday afternoon.

To my surprise we made a new friend that day. Her name was Melody and she is a "real life" Tupperware consultant. You heard me right. A Tupperware consultant.

I was shocked to meet a real life Tupperware consultant in today's world. I hadn't been invited to a Tupperware home party for years and years.

Melody told me that she does home parties and since I am a major Tupperware addict, I asked her if I could have one. She said, "Yes!"

Before I picked the date, I asked a few friends if they would be interested in coming. I wanted to make sure it would be worth Melody's time to throw me a party.

Once five of my friends and family said they would come, it was on go, baby! I was so excited. I booked my party two weeks away. I got to work immediately. I set up a Facebook event page, invited all my family and friends and, of course, planning the party food.

Planning the food was the best part.

The Winter blues slowly disappeared. Suddenly, I had many things on my to-do-list.

I made a vintage cake to fit the occasion. It was a dark chocolate, buttermilk cake with toasted marshmallow filling. I used 15 large marshmallows and put them in the oven and toasted both sides.

I covered the cake with raspberry, Swiss meringue buttercream and topped it with a wafer paper flower.

My hope was that at least eight of those invited would actually show up to the party. To my amazement, my guest list continued to grow and I needed more cake.  I made an additional dozen vanilla cupcakes and topped them with fresh strawberry buttercream.

I made princess flavored girly cookies topped with strawberry icing. I made dresses, purses, shoes, flowers and bows and served them up in my depression glass plates.

I was still concerned that I would run out of food. To my surprise, more of my friends and family were saying "yes" than I would have ever imagined.

I really thought I was the only one with a Tupperware addiction.

I was wrong, wrong, wrong.

I had originally planned for everyone to use a vintage plate and fork for their food but as the guest list grew, I had to resort to paper plates. I didn't have enough vintage plates for that many people.

I mean, come on people, who would have ever thought there would be this much interest in a Tupperware party!!???

I used mason jars and paper straws for our vintage iced tea.

I served up the mints in my Royal Albert cup & saucer and a milk glass dish & saucer. I filled tiny nut cups with cocoa covered almonds. No one ate the almonds or the mints. Everyone went straight to the cakes and cookies. I mean, why eat boring stuff when there is sweet stuff to eat?!

Of course I made a tablecloth. I mean, like, you know…a party without a pretty tablecloth is absolutely not acceptable.

To say the party was a success would be an understatement. I was shocked that everyone who said they were coming, actually came - with the exception of only one. I had 18 ladies show up for my Tupperware party on a very, very, cold January day.

I was so excited the party date had finally arrived. The excitement quickly turned to anxiety when I learned our water pipes were frozen and I had no water in the house.

During all the party preparations, I didn't pay attention to the weather. Duuuuhhhh….don't do this, people. If it is going to get really, really cold - pay attention.

The morning of the party, the temps had dropped to -2F (-19C)! Thankful for the hubster worked on the pipes until the water came back. Very close call.

There was one important detail that I didn't think about with all the party planning and excitement. I would be receiving free Tupperware just for having a party! I also didn't know that because my party was held during the most boring month of the year, that I would receive "double" Tupperware hostess benefits.

Bring it on, baby!

This is what the fed/ex guy stack up at my door. He didn't ring the doorbell so I was happy when "The Poodle" decided to guard my treasures.

The boxes were so big, it was difficult getting the door open and getting them inside the door. Persistence paid off. I lugged the boxes inside and….

life came to a screeching halt until I could get them all opened!

Look at all this Tupperware! It was like Christmas time.

THIS is all of my free and half-priced Tupperware. There are two additional items that didn't make it in the photo. I received an additional set of the "freezer mates" and the big "Thatsa bowl colander set."

My sister asked me if I had room for all of this. I said, "Of course!" Like, h-e-l-l-o, who wouldn't make room for brand new Tupperware!? I cleared out all the "no name" plastics, I gave away some Tupperware pieces that I could no longer use and many plastic pieces went into the trash.

I haven't missed anything that I tossed.

I will admit that I check out the inside of my cabinets several times a day to see all the new Tupperware and the beautiful colors.

If you have the same addiction as I, well, you will understand this.

So yeah, if you have been wondering - yes, they still have Tupperware home parties. They are a lot of fun but you have to seek it out. There is not a Tupperware consultant on every corner these days.

I hope you have enjoyed my Vintage Tupperware Party! I sure did.

Have you ever hosted a Tupperware party? I would love to hear about yours!

I am thankful we are seeing a lot more sunshine and warmer temps the past few weeks. I think the Winter blues are gone - it was a close call this year.

Tupperware saved the day!
